Why This Kolaveri Di

Coca Cola, 2011 called to ask why you're making covers of 'Why this Kolaveri Di'. But seriously, everyone remembers that song, right? Dhanush singing a seemingly nonsensical song in an exaggerated South Indian accent was probably the first Indian video to go viral immediately.

That song went from catchy to viral to annoying in one week and it got steadily more annoying everyday with newer covers and versions of it hitting YouTube, thereafter. But that was nearly 4 years ago.

This new Coca Cola ad features a Turkish version of that song, and just like the original, it is annoyingly catchy. Also, the video is so very Bollywood!

Sweepers search for grains of gold, precious stones in drains

All that glitters in Sarafa Bazaar of Jhansi is not gold. This is proved as over two dozen extremely poor Muslims in Jhansi town have been searching for gold in the dirty sewer lines of the area since centuries. Their 'escavation' starts around 2 am in the night and continues till 9 am in the morning when the jewellers open their shops.
There is a nullah before majority of these jewellery shops in which garbage and feces flow. These people of the Muslim sweeper community collect the dirty water and mud from the nullahs. They then extract elements of gold and silver by heating it and then reselling it to the jewellers. Occasionally, they also stumble upon costly stones besides grains of gold and silver.

They also sweep the road with small brushes and often find coils and currency notes that customers drop by mistake.

Despite carrying shallow pans, trowel and small buckets, the collection of mud and dirty water is done with their bare hands.

When at work, they hardly talk to each other. However, their mechanical coordination suggests that they have been doing this activity since decades.

"We also search for gold in the localities where jewellers live. Their family members wear heavy gold ornaments. Negligible parts of the gold polish get washed when they take bath. That flows into the nullahs. We collect this water every day and keep extracting gold from it. We collect gold worth Rs.1,000-4,000 a month and sell it back to the jewellers," said Mohammad Khaliq who is into this job.

He added: "Later, we wash the dirt and filter it using white clothes. Sometimes, we boil the collected water or dirt to extract valuables."

Anwar Alam, another person involved in this trade, said: "We belong to the sweeper community. It is our traditional job, which has been passed onto us by our parents. We started accompanying our elders from the age of 10 or 12 and learnt this art over the years."

He said: "We don't do anything that we shouldn't do. All we are trying is to survive by putting in hard work. I am doing this for the past 35 years and I am comfortable in it."

He said that one can earn up to Rs.250 after a day's toil in the Sarafa Bazar.

Alam added: "If lucky, we also find jewellery that a customer has lost. People ask us why we do such an obnoxious job. I tell them that our present and future lies in the dirt."

Raghav Verma, a jeweller, said: "Wastage of gold and silver is inevitable while manufacturing jewellery. We melt it and then put it in a frame to give it a particular shape. Later, it's cutting and carving is done. The process is so complicated that very small particles, invisible when seen with naked eyes, fall on the floor. The loss is also inevitable during polishing of gold."

"అమ్మని, దేవుడిని చూడాలంటే మనమే వెళ్ళాలి, వాళ్ళని ఎందుకు పిలవటం" -Trivikram srinivas

Pawan Kalyan was entirely a person of different attitude before meeting his present close pal Trivikram Srinivas. The Power Star was introverted and used to keep away from public events. But, Pawan has changed totally in Trivikram’s friendship. The actor is behaving according to the friend’s suggestions. He is mingling with people and even speaking to gathering at audio launch events.

Earlier to this, Pawan never cared about the scripts and worked in some really meaningless movies post the hit of Kushi. But, he is now concerned about stories and involving Trivikram in story sittings of all his films including his next project Gabbar Singh 2. A fact is that, Pawan is a kind hearted person and helped many people in industry as well as outsiders.

Craze and following enjoyed by Pawan is not simply because of films or his style. This is mainly due to good helping nature. General patrons are also becoming Pawan fans after knowing many good things on him. To earn money for helping the others, Pawan is now entering into the world of brand endorsements. Other friend Sharath Marar is looking after the International deals of Power Star.

When fans asked him to speak about Pawan Kalyan, Trivikram said: "During a phone conversation we had before coming to this event, Kalyan Garu questioned me what would be my answer if someone asked Me why he didn't grace the audio launch. I will use an already written dialogue of mine in this context - 'Ammani, Devudini Choodalante Maname Vellali, Vallani Enduku Pilavatam'. I believe Allu Arjun, Me and S/O Satyamurthy Team will have the blessings of my dear friend Kalyan Garu".

Fans went berserk upon hearing the speech of Trivikram about Pawan Kalyan. The words of the filmmaker hint that he admires Powerstar a lot for various reasons.

Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav on Course to Become World-Class Bowlers, says Shoaib Akhtar

Mohammed Shami has bagged 12 wickets while Umesh Yadav has seven in India's five wins at the World Cup 2015 so far.

Mumbai: Impressed by Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav's "mature performance" in the ongoing cricket World Cup, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar feels the duo are on the path to become "world-class" bowlers and have been the key to India's success in the tournament. (Complete World Cup coverage | History| Stats | Schedule | Points Table)

The pace duo shared four wickets between themselves as India humbled Ireland by eight wickets in their previous league encounter to register nine consecutive World Cup wins and also confirm their top spot going into the quarter-finals. (Dhoni's team missing a Kapil and an Amarnath: Gavaskar)

India have also had the distinction of bowling their opponents out in all the five outings and Akhtar is all praise for the pace duo's contribution. (Dhoni glad to see bowlers step up in World Cup 2015)

"50 wickets in 5 matches is an incredible task. I am glad to see such matured performances from Shami and Umesh in all the matches and I believe its not long before they are regarded as world-class bowlers," Akhtar, who is part of the Star Sports Hindi commentary panel, said. (For Dhoni's Team India, Hindi is the binding force)

Shami, who picked three wickets in Hamilton to restrict the Irish side to 259 all out, has bagged 12 wickets from four matches in the tournament so far. (India on course to retain World Cup trophy: Ravi Shastri)

Umesh, on the other hand, has bagged seven scalps from five games and has exuded confidence and pace in his bowling so far.

And Akhtar said it's a treat to watch the duo bowl. "It is truly a joy to watch them bowl so beautifully and enjoy their cricket," the Rawalpindi Express said.

Akhtar added that even though the Seddon Park wicket complimented the bowlers, the Indians did well to cut the Irish surge.

"The pitch complemented the playing conditions very well today. The ball was coming on to the bat nicely and it was a true test for the Indian bowlers against a very decent Irish side," said Akhtar, who bagged 247 wickets for Pakistan in 163 ODIs.

Eventually, it was Shikhar Dhawan who stole the show with his batting as he recorded his second century of the tournament to help India chase down the target in just 36.5 overs.

Recently Shami had also credited Akhtar for bringing back rhythm into his bowling after the former Pakistan speedster advised him to shorten his run-up, which has helped him increase his pace.

"The recent change in run-up has surely increased my pace. So I am continuing with it and hoping that it pays rich dividends. I did have a chat with Shoaib (Akhtar) bhai and he suggested that I should reduce my big strides.

So shortened my stride and it has worked. It (the new run-up) is smooth and comfortable and it has also increased my pace," Shami had said. The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side leads the Pool B standings with 10 points, followed by South Africa, Pakistan and Ireland.

The Men in Blue will face Zimbabwe on March 14.

Is This Indian Team a Complete Unit?

Will a possible 6 wins in 6 matches in the league stage be enough for this Indian team to be called the perfect unit, going by current form? Is this team the No.1 favourite to win the title on March 29?

1983: The West Indies under Clive Lloyd's captaincy was the team to beat. An almost complete team. They lost in the final to an unfancied Indian team, who were 50-1 outsiders before the tournament.

1987: India were defending champions and big favourites, considering the tournament was being played in India and Pakistan. They lost in the semi-finals to England.

1992: Martin Crowe's New Zealand were huge favourites. Almost a complete unit in all departments. They lost in the semis to eventual champions, Imran Khan's Pakistan.

For many these might just be statistics, but for the astute fan, it's a trend that MS Dhoni's Team India should be wary of. After all, there's no room for error in the knockout stages. So far, the Men in Blue have won all 5 of their matches in this edition of the World Cup. They are of course hands down favourites versus Zimbabwe, which means they will finish with 6 wins in 6 league games. But will that be enough for this team to be called the perfect unit, going by current form? Is this team the No.1 favourite to win the title on March 29? Or are there areas the team can improve in? According to NDTV World Cup expert and former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, "If this team had somebody who was even 10% of what Kapil Dev was, as an all-rounder, then this team would be complete. Even if they had someone like a Ravi Shastri or Mohinder Amarnath or Madan Lal, this team would have been a tremendous team and a team hard to beat, not necessarily in a World Cup but in limited overs cricket."('Dhoni's Team Lacking a Kapil Dev')

The all-rounder who will in all probability be in the Playing XI till India's last match of the tournament (barring injury) is Ravindra Jadeja. Stuart Binny is on the bench, but no captain likes to tinker with a winning combination. India's thumping 8 wicket win vs Ireland on Tuesday meant Jadeja didn't get a chance to bat. NDTV World Cup expert and former India cricketer VVS Laxman, in fact said, "I was a little disappointed that Raina and Jadeja didn't get an opportunity to bat. Virat Kohli is in good nick, Ajinkya Rahane is in good nick, but Raina and especially Jadeja don't have runs under their belt. How much ever they do net practice, how much ever they work hard in practice sessions, spending time in the middle and even getting a 30 or 40 in a match would have been a huge confidence booster for them." Dhoni will not be too worried about this. For him, these will be minor chinks in the armour. After all, if he was very worried about Raina's and Jadeja's form, he might just have pushed them up the order versus Ireland.(Dhawan Ton Sinks Ireland)

The skipper though will know that there's no such thing as an invincible cricket team. True, the 1948 Australian team, captained by Sir Donald Bradman that didn't lose a single match on their tour of England did earn the tag of 'The Invincibles', but that was a different era and a different game altogether. In the modern era, especially in limited overs cricket, even the most supremely confident and in-form teams have to be careful.

The media is always accused of putting pressure on the team, of over-analysing things. So, let's keep the analysis simple. As far as India is concerned, the overall picture is looking good. The openers are firing. Shikhar Dhawan already has two centuries in this World Cup and is 1 away from equalling the all-time record of the most tons in a single World Cup. Rohit Sharma's 64 vs Ireland has pushed his tournament average beyond 35. The upper middle order is in good hands, thanks to Kohli and Rahane. Dhoni has got some crucial runs under his belt in a run chase. The bowlers are hunting in packs and both the pace and spin departments are coming good. All 5 opponents so far have been bowled out by India. No wonder then that Herschelle Gibbs tweeted to say, "India have ticked all the right boxes going into the quarters, playing like a champion outfit."

A champion outfit or a complete unit were phrases experts would never have used for the Indian team that played in the tri-series in Australia. This however is a completely different team in terms of application and determination. Dhoni, in fact has said, "The moment you start thinking about participating in a World Cup, the adrenaline starts flowing. With a lot of fans coming from India, and starting with an India-Pakistan game, was just fantastic."

The captain seems to be in a happy frame of mind, which is great news for the team. India do have another league stage match to play, but millions of Indian fans in the country and across the world know what the real equation is. Three wins. That's all Dhoni and company need. Complete unit or not, if they achieve that, they will achieve immortality.

'In Fair Trial, Will Establish My Total Innocence,' Says Manmohan Singh on Coal Case Summons

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has been summoned by a court as an accused in a case linked to the coal allocation scam, said today that he hoped to establish his "total innocence".

Dr Singh and five others have been summoned on April 8 in connection with the allocation of a coal field in Odisha's Talabira block in 2005 to Hindalco. At the time, Dr Singh held direct charge of the Coal Ministry.

"I respect the judicial process of this country. I hope in any fair trial I will be able to establish my total innocence," the former PM told NDTV.

He said he had stated his position before the CBI. "I have also as Prime Minister issued a statement justifying what we did. I am sure that the truth will prevail," he said.

To reporters' questions, he added, "Of course I am upset, but this is part of life."

Dr Singh, who was prime minister of the country for 10 years until his Congress party lost the national polls last year to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP, is the most high-profile person to be named in the case.

"An economist prime minister has been summoned by court only because of Congress scams," said senior BJP leader and union minister Prakash Javadekar.

Congress leaders strongly defended Dr Singh.

"I don't think anyone in India believes that Manmohan Singh can do something wrong or corrupt. He was extremely cautious and he always wanted to be on the right side of the law. We shall defend Manmohan Singh with all our might," said senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal

Solar Impulse Plane Lands in India After 15 Hours of Flight

The Swiss-built Solar Impulse plane completed the second leg of its round-the-world journey on Tuesday in Ahmedabad, India, after flying for more than 15 hours from Oman.

The solar-powered, single-seat craft took off amid the morning haze at Muscat International Airport in Oman, at 6:36 a.m. local time (10:36 p.m. ET Monday).

"Fantastic feeling," pilot Bertrand Piccard said as he headed down the runway.

The trip ended after dark in Ahmedabad, about 910 miles (1,468 kilometers) away, at 11:25 p.m. local time (1:55 p.m. ET Tuesday). Solar Impulse claimed a couple of firsts for this flight: the longest "pre-declared" straight distance flown by a solar-powered plane, and the first piloted solar-powered plane to fly in Asia

Dark Energy Survey Reveals Signs of Nine Dwarf Galaxies

Two groups of astronomers looking around the edges of our Milky Way galaxy were surprised to find a gaggle of previously undetected dwarf satellite galaxies — incredibly dim conglomerations of stars that may account for some of themysterious dark matter in our cosmic neighborhood.

Nine galaxy candidates were discovered in a region of the southern celestial hemisphere near the best-known dwarf galaxies orbiting the Milky Way: the Large and the Small Magellanic Cloud. The closest is about 95,000 light-years away. The farthest is more than a million light-years distant.

A team of astronomers from the University of Cambridge and a separate group representing the Dark Energy Survey, headquartered at Fermilab, announced the discoveries jointly on Tuesday

This illustration maps out the previously discovered dwarf satellite galaxies (in blue) and the eight newly discovered candidates identified by the Dark Energy Survey group (in red) as they sit outside the Milky Way. A separate group of astronomers from the University of Cambridge identified nine candidates. ________________________________________________________________________________

"The discovery of so many satellites in such a small area of the sky was completely unexpected," Cambridge's Sergey Koposov, the lead author of astudy to be published in The Astrophysical Journal, said in a news release.

Both teams based their findings on publicly available data from the Dark Energy Survey, which is collecting imagery of the southern sky to seek insights into the cause of our universe's accelerating expansion.

The findings could shed light on a different mystery: Astronomers say dark matter apparently accounts for roughly 80 percent of the universe's mass, but the stuff can't be observed except through its gravitational effect. The newly discovered dwarf galaxies could be reservoirs for dark matter.

"The large dark matter content of Milky Way satellite galaxies makes this a significant result for both astronomy and physics," Fermilab's Alex Drlica-Wagner, one of the leaders of the Dark Energy Survey's study, said in a news release.

The Cambridge astronomers said at least three of the nine newly detected objects are definitely dwarf galaxies. They said the other six could be galaxies, or they could be globular clusters that aren't held together with dark matter. The Dark Energy Survey group identified eight new Milky Way companions and said several are likely to be new satellite galaxies.

Ban on Farewell day in colleges

While in college, the beginning and the end are celebrated. The beginning and end of every year, popularly referred to as ‘fresher’s party’ and ‘seniors farewell party’ are more of a norm. But some of the hindu outfits issued warings and asked to ban the farewell parties as they feel it will be destroying Indian culture.

On the eve of valentine’s day recently some of Hindu outfits have threatened the unmarried couples of dire consequences if they indulge in any kind of anti cultural or traditional activities.

After having tried everything else in their arsenal on Valentine's Days--setting V-Day cards on fire, harassing youngsters out on a date, forcing girls to tie rakhi on boys' wrists etc-- the right wing organisations seem to be changing their gameplan.

Now they issued orders to soem colleges and schools to keep away from celebrating farewell day celebrations. As the academic year is coming to conclude some Hindu outfits issued orders to some schools and colleges in Haryana.

The decision of outfits is earring flak from all corners. Each culture has a set of negative and positive points. They are similar to the two sides of the same coin. No one culture ever surpasses the other culture, as it all depends on perception. Many people these days opt to take positive points from both the cultures and live as it suits them.

The other day, Harsh has auctioned all the costumes he has worn in his movies in the Shirt Off garage sale. This charity event raised funds for helping the girl Swathi who happens to be from a poor family and dreams of becoming a doctor. That’s a great job by the Telugu star. We have to appreciate it.

Harshavardan’s next release will be “Avunu 2”, which is directed by creative fellow Ravibabu and has heroine Poorna doing the main role

Pawan fires fresh salvo against LPS

Pawan fires fresh salvo against LPS..

Continuing his campaign against the land pooling scheme for the new capital, Jana Sena Party chief and Tollywood actor Pawan Kalyan on Friday urged the TDP government to exempt three villages from the scheme.

In a fresh salvo, the actor, who toured the villages in the capital region, asked the government to exempt the villages where the opposition to LPS is very great.

Addressing the media on Friday , Pawan said the LPS is putting the farmers of Penumaka, Vundavalli and Bethapudi at a great disadvantage. "While the farmers in Vundavalli say the land rates in their village was the highest and that the compensation is inadequate, those from Penumaka say they have no other occupation once they lose their farming livelihood. The Bethapudi farmers claim they have already lost a lot of land to road expansion. Therefore, I request the state to exempt these three villages from the scheme," he said.

The actor also wanted a social impact assessment to be carried out wherever land is being acquired. "We must know what impact it will have on the lives of the landless laborers," he said. The actor said he is not against building a grand capital, but that time and again, like the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), land has been acquired and misused by vested interests.
Pawan also said found fault with the government's orders to stop all cultivation at one go in the capital region. "The capital will be developed only in phases. So stopping cultivation can also be done in phases," he argued.

Sri Lankan star player Kumar Sangakkara on SUnday became the only cricketer to score three consecutive centuries in a World Cup. He achieved this feat in the Pool A match against Australia in Sydney.

The 37-Year-Old scored his ODI 24th Ton in his 402nd Match. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka fell short of target (377) by 65 runs to help Australia reach Quarter Finals.

Kumar Sangakkara will retire from ODIs after the ongoing World Cup. He already quit T20 after winning World T20 2014 and will be bidding adieu to Tests in August this year after India series.
